This home shares its site with a series of magnificent boulders, but what it lacked was a garden that integrated the rocks into the landscape, the home into its surroundings, a gracious, safe and grand front staircase, outdoor living areas for entertaining done with an eclectic flair reflective of the homeowners ebullient aesthetic. GLD replaced the entry from the sidewalk to the front door on the second floor with a sweeping, grand staircase, replete with wrought iron railings. Elsewhere, new pathways lead through the boulders to intimate spaces and larger living rooms beyond. The driveway that dominated the backyard was torn out and redesigned so as to appear less utilitarian, patio-like, and to accommodate multiple functions.
