Transformed from a tiny house to a two story, finely crafted bungalow, this house was in need of being grounded on the hill it occupied. Lack of privacy, a herd of deer, little to no flat areas, added to the challenges. In the back, Tim and Lisa designed a large, multilevel redwood deck, creating separate but integrated spaces with a built-in grill, arbors walls, planters, and benches made of stone. Casual, winding steps lead you down from the back to the pervious cobblestone driveway below. Along the way you cannot help but slow your pace as you pass through an enchanting columnar stone forest. It is a very unusual use of stone, an answer to the penchant the homeowners have for ancient stone arrangements of the British Isles. Next to the sidewalk, underneath the canopy of an ornamental Cherry Tree, a couple of stepping stones lead to a 2 ton boulder with a natural seat in it, an offering to the passerby on the street. |
